Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
